Newsletter: New Kits, Lab Visits, and Sourcing Solutions 🛠️

Autumn has officially arrived here in Wales, bringing a crisp shift in the air after a brilliant summer. We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes and are thrilled to officially start selling the Mothbox Pro automated insect monitor. Read on to explore the latest updates, project milestones, and news from the LabCrafter team!

As always, if you've bought something from us over the last couple of months or so, please leave us a review as it really helps a small business like ours! Or even better, send us a testimonial that we can feature on our website.

Mothbox Pro kit

The Mothbox Pro kit designed by the brilliant team at Digital Naturalism Laboratories is now live! Through our partnership with the Open Science Shop network, we’re thrilled to help bring this open-source, 64MP automated insect monitor to the UK and EU. Read our latest blog post to learn about the story behind the project and how to get your hands on a kit.

EnviroDIY Mayfly Data Logger starter kit

We’re really excited to announce that we are now stocking the EnviroDIY Mayfly Data Logger, along with its starter kit and 4G/LTE cellular module. We first came across this brilliant open-source board at the Open Hardware Summit in Edinburgh and immediately loved that it works natively with commercial, pre-calibrated sensor probes, saving you from the tedious headache of characterising home-made probes. It’s been field-proven for years in massive river monitoring networks across the US, but it’s always been incredibly difficult to get hold of on this side of the pond. We’ve tested the cellular module to make sure it works seamlessly on UK networks, and everything is now available in our online shop for your citizen-science or environmental monitoring projects.

In our last newsletter, we mentioned the work we’ve been doing on the electroPioreactor, a bioreactor that generates its own hydrogen. Testing at Imperial College London and the University of Edinburgh is going great—we even popped into the Imperial lab recently to see the setup in action! Fueled by that momentum, we are starting to test version 0.2 next week, bringing us one massive step closer to a full launch on our website. Please get in touch if you want to learn more!

If you’ve tried buying a Raspberry Pi lately, you know global shortages have made them tough to find and pricey. To keep your projects moving, we’ve stocked up on the Raspberry Pi 3+ as well as 1GB and 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 models as ready-to-ship alternatives to the elusive Pi Zero 2W. If you know of any other great alternative boards, let us know!
